Training

When do we train?
We train on Saturdays from 12:00PM - 1:30PM. Jon also runs a "Warrior Fitness" class from 11AM - 12PM.

Where do we train?
We train in the West Picnic Area of Mercer County Park, Mercer County, NJ (see our Directions page for more information).

How much does training cost?
The cost to train with us is $10 per person per class.

What should you wear to training?
We train outside, all year long, so you should dress appropriately for the weather. It's always a good idea to wear removable layers of clothing.

What else should you bring to training?
Something to drink (preferably water) to keep yourself hydrated is definitely recommended. If you have training weapons (bokken, bō, hanbō, etc...) you can bring them as well.

What should you expect?
We train in a non-competitive atmostphere, with everyone training together. We do not have separate classes for different experience levels; we find this to be the best way for students to learn our art.

What age do you have to be to train with us?
You must be at least 16 to train with us. We ask that students 16- or 17-years old be accompanied by a parent the first time they visit our class, so we can introduce ourselves and speak to them, and to allow them to ask any questions they may have about our training.

Is there anything else you should know?

  • You do not need to have prior martial arts experience in order to train with us. If you have had prior experience, we ask that you please keep an open mind to what we're doing; that really is the only way you will learn what we are teaching.
  • There are no monthly contracts, or monthly payments; you pay per class.
  • Payment for training is due immediately following the conclusion of each training session.
  • We do offer belt ranks directly from the Hombu Dōjō if you are interested.
  • No, we will not teach you how to make smokebombs, poisons, or explosives, or how to climb walls or catch arrows bare-handed, just in case you feel compelled to ask. (And yes, we do get those questions.)
